And here we are in April 2022, with changing Covid protocols, back at Library and Archives Canada for research.  A lot of people have asked about what has changed here, and what is the same, so I thought I would give you my experiences and observations.

Before you arrive:

You are still required to book your appointment two weeks ahead of time online, using the Eventbrite app.  The app is open on Mondays and closes when full or in a few days.  This is the only window of opportunity for researchers to get their space.

On the bright side you are now able to book for 8 appointments or 4 days per week.  The number of seats available have also increased.  There are more opportunities.

Entering LAC:

There are now no restrictions on lockers for your coat and bags – at the height of the pandemic only the top lockers were available.

You are not checked for your vaccine certificates.

Everyone still must wear a mask

Once on the 2nd and 3rd floors you have to wash your hands, but there is no longer a sink in the landing area, you are asked to go to the washrooms and wash there.

You have to present photo identification to enter the restricted area, and you have to sign in. there are no reserved tables – pick your own.

The lockers in the restricted area are now locked up tight, and you can only have two to store your boxes.  When you need a box you have to ask to have the locker unlocked.

The public consultation areas closed during the lunch hour during the height of the pandemic restrictions, this has stopped.  You are able to work through the lunch hour.
