The next best thing to having a coat of baby-lamb is to have a smart jacket of panne. The effect is almost identical, and panne is the less perishable than the delicate fur which is so very costly. Short coats of panne strapped or bordered with stitched cloth are very pretty, and when a collar of fur or a touch of lace or velvet is introduced at the week the effect is charming.
[Note: According to the dictionary panne is a silk or rayon (but clearly not rayon above) velvet with lustrious pile flattened in one direction. It is also called Panne velvet.]
