Last night I went to a book sale at Kanata United Church, and of course came out with an armload of books.  I love books!  But while I am greatly enamoured of all my purchases one just stands out.  It is a lovely hardcover called “The Intelligent Woman’s Guide to Socialism and Capitalism” by George Bernard Shaw, published in 1928.  The title alone is quite intriguing, and I can hardly wait to read the text.  But what sold me this particular book was its inscription to the original owner on the inside cover.

It reads:

Presented to Dorothy Clark, Christmas 1932, in the hope that with her finer appreciation, she may derive from it whatever is spiritually elevating, without mental subjugation, rejecting or correctly evaluating its Shavian cynicism.  Pal.”

Too good to pass up.
