Mr. Emerson lectured last evening according to announcement, and the lecture was remarkable for the exhibition of the genius he is known to possess; but we regretted to see that he had not a more crowded audience in Montreal.  At the close, it was announced that Mr. Vandenhoff had been engaged for three readings, the first of which, “Hamlet,” will be given on Tuesday evening next.  We feel sure that the immense crowd, who on the occasion of his last visit went to Nordheimer’s Hall an hour before the time advertised for the opening of the doors to make sure of a seat, will be delighted to hear of his re-engagement.  The Directors of the Mercantile Library Association deserve the support of the community in their efforts to provide them with literary entertainments of the highest character.
