 St. David’s Day celebration

The Welsh residents of this city celebrated St. David’s Day in a fitting manner on Saturday evening.  About one hundred ladies and gentlemen sat down to a nice dinner in the Hope Coffee house.  After the inner man had been fortified the remainder of the evening was spent socially and pleasantly with song and sentiment.  Mr Kirkham, who presided, delivered an address appropriate to the occasion.  He was followed in a similar strain by Mr John Lewis.  The musical portion of the programme was ably sustained by Mesdames Vaughan and R Robert, Miss Kirkham, Miss Rowalls, Miss Pritchard, Miss M Howelis, Master Estrye, Gordon Robert, a five year old youngster, Messrs R Roberts, Jno Jones, LT Cunningham, ~~ Lt Pritchard, RD Vaughan, JR Jones, Wm Hughes.  The gathering which was an enjoyable one, terminated with the singing of “God Save the Queen.”
