The descendants of the men who, a century ago, hewed out homes for themselves in the forests of that section of Lower Canada that is now known as the Eastern Townships are preparing to celebrate that heroism by a commemorative gathering on July 1st and 2nd, 1892.  Sherbrooke will be the scene of the celebration, and one of its substantial results will be a monument of native rock bearing the names of all the counties.  There has indeed been too little effort made to perpetuate the memory of those stern heroes and their unyielding loyalty- the men who made Canada an English colony.
